Paul Dano to write THE RIDDLER: YEAR ONE

By Zack Quaintance — The actor Paul Dano is writing The Riddler: Year One, a new series due out in October from DC Comics that follows the story of how Dano's character became a villain in the new film, The Batman. The series, which is being published through DC’s Black Label imprint, is due out in October. This six-issue miniseries will be released bi-monthly, and it will feature artwork by Stevan Subic, an acclaimed European illustrator who is making his DC Comics debut.

The story of the book will follow how Dano’s character in the new film The Batman became a villain, essentially.

Information about the new book is pretty light so far, but you can read the full announcement from the good folks at the DC Comics press team below:

For many film and comic book fans, Paul Dano’s portrayal of The Riddler in Matt Reeves’ The Batman (in theatres now) was arguably one of the most chilling and terrifying incarnations ever seen in a Batman film. This October, fans will have the opportunity to learn more about The Riddler’s origins in Riddler: Year One, a six-issue bimonthly DC Black Label series, written by The Batman actor Paul Dano, with art by acclaimed European illustrator Stevan Subic, making his DC debut.

This series explores the background of how accountant Edward Nashton went from a simple Gotham City nobody to becoming Batman’s nemesis, setting them on a collision course in the blockbuster feature film.

And you can also check out what is presumably the first issue’s cover…

So, add launching and maintaining a successful career as one of the most face-punchable actors in Hollywood to the long list of ways people have broken into comics. It’s like Jack Kirby always said, “Kid, comics will drink your milkshake…” Or something.
