The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Armageddon Game event is coming in August

By Zack Quaintance — A new 8-issue comics event called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Armageddon Game is slated to kick off in August. This story is written by Tom Waltz — who co-wrote the current TMNT comic through issue #100 — and illustrated by Vincenzo Federici.

In the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Armageddon Game announcement from publisher IDW Publishing, Waltz notes that this story is the culmination of years of planning that appeared in his TMNT run, which he co-wrote with turtles creator Kevin Eastman. The story is set within the main TMNT continuity.

You can check out a teaser description of the story below after the jump…

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Armageddon Game

Here is that aforementioned description:

In The Armageddon Game, the Turtles—under the leadership of the Shredder—begin a dangerous quest to seek out allies against Rat King’s trio of terror: LeatherKrang, Baxter Stockman, and Madame Null. It’s a mission that will see our heroes spread out across New York City…and across multiple dimensions! But they’d better hurry because their enemies are already on the march, and with the Turtles absent, Mutant Town is ripe for false flag attacks, mysterious new villains, and unexpected alliances. The time has come at last to find out who is playing the game…and who is being played!

While the groundwork for the story may have been laid during the run co-written by Eastman and Waltz, the announcement also notes that it’s been continued in the new era, helmed by writer/artist Sophie Campbell. Most recently, that meant a one-shot comic titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Armageddon Game Pre-Game, which compiled relevant stories that have already been published. On top of that, there’s a two-issue intro series on the way from Waltz and artist Fero Peniche starting in July titled TMNT Armageddon Game: Opening Moves #1.

It’s all pretty exciting, with these Turtle comics quietly ranking as one of the best ongoing monthly comics stories in recent memory, as well as the best era for these characters in 20-some years.
