Tom King, Jorge Fornés collaborating again on DANGER STREET

DC Comics has unveiled that Danger Street will be the next series by writer Tom King and artist Jorge Fornés. With a first issue set for May 3, the book — which is being published via Black Label — will have a bi-monthly publication schedule. Dave Stewart will return to color Fornés.

All three creators most recently collaborated on Rorschach, which concluded last year. The thing that jumps out about Danger Street right away is just how bonkers the whole thing works (in a good way, if you ask me). You can read about it all below via DC’s official announcement, but it has to do with obscure heroes, knights and princesses, a layered crime mystery, and characters summoning Darkseid to try and fight him.

Oh, and the lineup of heroes that appear in this comic is also taken directly from the mid-1970s series, DC First Issue Special. There’s a lot going on here, and I for one am pretty excited to see how it call comes together.

You can check out the official announcement from DC below, along with three inked pages and the corresponding variant covers mentioned in that announcement. See you all May 3, when our resident Tom King expert Steve Baxi will likely have quite a bit to write about this first issue…

Best-selling writer Tom King continues to plumb the depths of the DC Universe, with an all-new DC Black Label comic, Danger Street. This 12-issue bi-monthly maxiseries reunites King with his fellow Rorschach collaborators, artist Jorge Fornés and colorist Dave Stewart in a deeply layered crime drama featuring reimagined and updated versions of some of DC’s most obscure and offbeat Super Heroes, from the DC 1st Issue Special series from the mid-1970’s.

Joining the Justice League is a goal for any superhero, but what happens when a quest for membership takes a sinister turn? Join Starman, Metamorpho, and Warlord as they look to prove themselves worthy by summoning and defeating Darkseid in battle. Soon they’ll learn that calling upon a New God never ends well, and their world is headed for disaster as a result! The journey to save the day will be a treacherous one filled with princesses, knights, and all kinds of monsters. Each person the heroes encounter plays a crucial role in this sprawling yet gripping narrative that is a little bit silly, a whole lot dark, and completely cool.

Book One of this 12-issue series arrives in comic book shops and on participating digital platforms on Tuesday May 3. The debut issue features a main cover by series artist Fornés, with variant covers spotlighting characters featured in both Danger Street and the original DC 1st Issue Special series. The open to buy variant cover features Atlas, and is drawn by comics icon Steve Rude, with a 1-in-25 ratio variant by Lee Weeks featuring The Creeper, Metamorpho and The Warlord, plus a Dr. Fate 1-in-50 ratio variant from Ben Oliver. Check local comic book shops for details and pre-ordering.

The DC UNIVERSE INFINITE digital subscription service has the complete run of the DC 1st Issue Special series, both as individual issues and as a collection. To learn more about these heroes, and for a free trial of the service, check out the website at www.dcuniverseinfinite.com
