Best comiXology Sales: Image Comics super sale

By Zack Quaintance — You know, when I do these lists I usually try to get a wide-range of publishers. Sometimes, I even try to get books from five separate publishers to foster variety. But this week, there’s such a great and gigantic Image Comics sale going on, that I decided to just go with best comiXology sales: Image Comics. And as the name implies, it’s all Image Comics this week.

Check out the full list of picks below…

Best comiXology Sales: Image Comics Super Sale

Big Hard Sex Criminals Vol. 1 - Vol. 2
Writer:
Matt Fraction
Artist: Chip Zdarsky
Publisher: Image Comics
Gathering together for the first time in full glorious color on oversized pages and almost entirely in the right order comes the pulse-quickening, pants-tightening, heart-pokening third and fourth arcs of the award-winning, bestselling, can't-believe-this-is-actually-our-jobs sex comedy SEX CRIMINALS, with bonus content (some created exclusively for this volume) and a modesty cover beneath the dust jacket to enable shame-free public consumption.
Why It’s Cool: This is just an absolutely charming (right word?) series about people who can stop time when they orgasm…and they start to use that ability to commit crimes. The story becomes something quite a bit more quiet (and personal) from there, but that’s the premise at the start. With these two giant books, you can now check out the first 20 issues of the series en route to picking up the third book.
Price: $14.99 and $15.99; or $30.98 total
Buy Them: Big Hard Sex Criminals Vol. 1, and Big Hard Sex Criminals Vol. 2

The Black Monday Murders Vol. 1 - Vol. 2
Writer:
Jonathan Hickman
Artist: Tomm Coker
Publisher: Image Comics
"MAMMON" ALL HAIL GOD MONEY! From JONATHAN HICKMAN (EAST OF WEST, Secret Wars, Avengers) and TOMM COKER (UNDYING LOVE) comes a new crypto-noir series about the power of dirty, filthy money... and exactly what kind of people you can buy with it. THE BLACK MONDAY MURDERS is classic occultism where the various schools of magic are actually clandestine banking cartels who control all of society: a secret world where vampire Russian oligarchs, Black popes, enchanted American aristocrats, and hitmen from the International Monetary Fund work together to keep ALL OF US in our proper place.
Why It’s Cool: Have you been enjoying writer Jonathan Hickman’s work on X-Men? Probably yes, most people seem to be, but what if I told you that that’s not even Hickman’s best work? That there’s another fairly recent comic that’s even more complex, even more interesting, and all done with a fantastic artist? That book is The Black Monday Murders, and it’s a fantastic blend of the occult, capitalism, and secret societies.
Price: $7.99 and $6.49; or $14.48 total
Buy Them Here: The Black Monday Murders Vol. 1, and The Black Monday Murders Vol. 2

Criminal Vol. 1 - Vol. 7
Writer:
Ed Brubaker
Artist: Sean Phillips
Publisher: Image Comics
The bestselling crime series returns in strikingly designed new editions from Image, starting where it all began: CRIMINAL, VOL. 1: COWARD - a new take on noir that turned the heist story on its head and created a whole new underworld for BRUBAKER & PHILLIPS to explore.
Why It’s Cool: One of the single greatest crime series of all time, there’s basically never been a bad issue of Brubaker and Phillips’ Criminal, a multi-generation story of a criminal family where the same faces tend to pop up, ensnared in the same webs of dubious behavior. Now the entire series is on sale; embrace the darkness and jump right in.
Price: $5.99 per volume or $41.93 for all seven volumes
Buy Them Here: Criminal Vol. 1; Criminal Vol. 2; Criminal Vol. 3; Criminal Vol. 4; Criminal Vol. 5; Criminal Vol. 6; and Criminal Vol. 7

East of West, Vol. 1 - Vol. 9
Writer:
Jonathan Hickman
Artist: Nick Dragotta
Publisher: Image Comics
This is the world. It is not the one we wanted, but it is the one we deserved. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse roam the Earth, signaling the End Times for humanity, and our best hope for life, lies in DEATH.
Why It’s Cool: Interested in even more from Jonathan Hickman? Looking for something with a bigger scope and a finite end as compared to The Black Monday Murders? Well friend, I think East of West may be for you. This is still the near future dystopian story to beat, rich as it is with Hickman’s best-in-class high concept ideas and patient story pacing. It’s also all brought to life by some of the cleanest linework I’ve ever seen, courtesy of artist Nick Dragotta.
Price: $3.99 - $6.49 for individual volumes; or $47.83 for all of it
Buy Them Here: East of West Vol. 1; East of West Vol. 2; East of West Vol. 3; East of West Vol. 4; East of West Vol. 5; East of West Vol. 6; East of West Vol. 7; East of West Vol. 8; and East of West Vol. 9

God Country
Writer:
Donny Cates
Artist: Geoff Shaw
Publisher: Image Comics
SOUTHERN BASTARDS meets American Gods in a high-stakes fantasy series that masterfully blends high-octane action and jaw-dropping worldbuilding. In GOD COUNTRY, readers meet Emmett Quinlan, an old widower rattled by dementia. Emmett isn't just a problem for his children—his violent outbursts are more than the local cops can handle. When a tornado levels his home—as well as the surrounding West Texas town—a restored Quinlan rises from the wreckage. An enchanted sword at the eye of the storm gives him more than a sound mind and body, however. He's now the only man who can face these otherworldly creatures the sword has drawn down to the Lone Star State… In GOD COUNTRY, salvation is a double-edged sword.
Why It’s Cool: There’s just something so satisfying about a confident story that speeds through its fantastic concept in one volume, and that’s definitely what God Country is — a taut thriller about family legacies and multi-dimensional mythical swords, all of which is set in Texas with a tone to it that’s earnest as all get out.
Price: $6.49

Ice Cream Man, Vol. 1 - Vol. 5
Writer:
W. Maxwell Prince
Artist: Martin Morazzo
Publisher: Image Comics
Chocolate, vanilla, existential horror, drug addiction, musical fantasy...there's a flavor for everyone's misery. ICE CREAM MAN is a genre-defying comic book series featuring disparate "one-shot" tales of sorrow, wonder, and redemption. Each installment features its own cast of strange characters, dealing with their own special sundae of suffering. And on the periphery of all of them, like the twinkly music of his colorful truck, is the Ice Cream Man—a weaver of stories, a purveyor of sweet treats. Friend. Foe. God. Demon. The man who, with a snap of his fingers—lickety split!—can change the course of your life forever.
Why It’s Cool: For the past two years, Ice Cream Man has been my favorite monthly comic book series. It’s a fantastic horror anthology comic with a set of relevant, adult sensibilities, often rooted in existentialism. It’s a must-read in every way as far as I’m concerned.
Price: $6.49 - $6.99 for each volume, or $33.95 for each

Little Bird, Vol. 1: The Fight for Elder’s Hope
Writer:
Darcy Van Poelgeest
Artist: Ian Bertram
Publisher: Image Comics
With the limitless scope of Star Wars and EAST OF WEST paired with the sociopolitical explorations of A Handmaid’s Tale and MONSTRESS, LITTLE BIRD tells the story of a young resistance fighter battling against an oppressive American Empire while searching for her own identity in a world on fire. A gorgeously illustrated epic from Award-winning filmmaker DARCY VAN POELGEEST and Angoulême-nominated artist IAN BERTRAM in which one girl risks everything to save her people, their land, and the freedom they so desperately deserve. Collects LITTLE BIRD #1-5
Why It’s Cool: Little Bird blew me away when it first hit, so much so that I actually have a very nice hardcover-bound book of this one on my shelf. The concept and the artwork in this one are both fascinating as all get out, and the execution is just stunning. It’s the time of high-concept wild story that just fits perfectly for comics, with its unique ability to be a skunkworks for this sort of thing.
Price: $9.99
