Best comiXology Sales: Halloween Part 1

Clean Room, Vol. 1 - Vol. 2
Writer:
Gail Simone
Artist: Jon Davis-Hunt, Walter Geovani
Publisher: DC Comics - Vertigo
It's the start of the first Vertigo series from fan-favorite writer Gail Simone, with 2000AD artist Jon Davis-Hunt! Astrid Mueller is the enigmatic and compelling guru of a giant self-help organization-a devastatingly powerful figure in the industry between psychology and religion. Journalist Chloe Pierce's fiancé decided to pick up Astrid's book, and within three months he was dead. Something in Astrid Mueller's book made Philip blow his brains out all over Chloe's new kitchen. Now Chloe is on a mission to find out who Astrid Mueller really is. What is this Clean Room she's been hearing about where your deepest fear and worst moments are revealed? Chloe intends to immerse herself in the Clean Room and wreak havoc on Astrid's empire.
Why It’s Cool: If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it several dozen times — if Clean Room had come out during Vertigo’s hayday, it would have run for 50+ issues. While I bemoan it’s shorter length, I absolutely adore this book, one of the most interesting and different takes on monster/alien horror in some time. Read it now if you somehow missed its run!
Price: $2.99 each, or $9.97 for all of it

Coffin Bound, Vol. 1 - Vol. 3
Writer:
Dan Watters
Artist: DaNi
Publisher: Image Comics
Cars! Guns! Entropy! Chased by an unstoppable killer, Izzy Tyburn has decided that if the world won't have her in it, it can have nothing of her at all. She's re-treading her life, leaving nothing but burned rubber, ash, and the sun-scorched bones of those who get in her way. Join writer DAN WATTERS (Sandman Universe: Lucifer, LIMBO), artist DANI (2000AD, Girl with No Name), and colorist BRAD SIMPSON (JESUSFREAK, MCMLXXV) on a road trip through a blood-splattered life.
Why It’s Cool: Coffin Bound is a different sort of more poetic horror, one that puts forth sweeping existential terror ideas that are conveyed by impressive, almost abstract artwork and the grittiest of plot lines. It’s not only one of the best horror comics in recent years, but a must-read for folks who love experimentation with the form. Also, this team has gone on to Big 2 success with the launch of the critically acclaimed new first issue, Arkham City: The Order of the World #1.
Price:
$6.99 each; or $13.98 for both

A horrific story of a haunted house and one woman's mission to wash away the blood curse of her husband's invention from claiming her own life and soul. Why It’s Cool: There’s a sense of reality to this horror comic, with the inspiration for it coming from actual history and creepy accounts. It’s also all rendered with experimental, bold excellence from visionary artist Ian Bertram, whose work makes any comic a must-read on its own.

The Seeds
Writer:
Ann Nocenti
Artist: David Aja
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics - Berger Books
The hotly-anticipated eco-fiction tech thriller-meets-love-story from the award-winning, visionary team of Ann Nocenti (Daredevil, Ruby Falls) and David Aja (Hawkeye, Immortal Iron Fist)! The bees are swarming. What do they know that we don't? In a broken-down world, a rebellious group of ruthless romantics have fled a tech-obsessed society to create their own and a few cantankerous aliens have come to harvest the last seeds of humanity. When one of them falls in love with a human, idealistic journalist Astra stumbles into the story of a lifetime, only to realize that if she reports it, she'll destroy the last hope of a dying planet. How far will she go for the truth?
Why It’s Cool: Speaking of artists who make any book a must-buy, The Seeds is illustrated by David Aja. That’s enough, but it’s also a thoughtful, seeringly-smart scripted comic courtesy of Ann Nocenti. This is easily one of the most interesting comics of recent years, taking the crown as the best dystopian book I’ve read possibly ever. It’s so so good.

Sleeping Beauties, Vol. 1
Writers:
Owen King, Stephen King, and Rio Youers
Artist: Alison Sampson
Publisher: IDW Publishing
This official graphic novel adaptation of the horror novel by Stephen King and Owen King is a haunting interpretation of the chilling, timely bestseller. A bizarre sleeping sickness, called Aurora, has fallen over the world. Its victims can't wake up. And all of them are women. As nations fall into chaos, those women still awake take desperate measures to stay that way, and men everywhere begin to give in to their darkest impulses. Meanwhile, in the small town of Dooling, a mysterious woman has walked out of the woods; she calls herself Eve and leaves a trail of carnage in her wake. Strangest of all, she's the only woman who can wake up.
Why It’s Cool: This novel adaptation is a fantastic fit for the comics medium, with its ideas translating to visuals naturally and artist Alison Sampson absolutely crushing the creepy aesthetics throughout. I absolutely love this comic.
