Even humanity's last hope needs a little help sometimes.
The Vault is in sight and Eve's come farther than any before her, but the last leg of her journey will test her to her core. Thankfully, she isn't alone... with her newly discovered sister by her side.
Wexler has dodged the bullet, literally, and is in hot pursuit of the pair. Will he catch up to them and dash humanity's last chance?

Why It’s Cool: This book has been so good since it’s first issue, doing something with its narrative that is always a challenge in comics — giving us a meaty narrative in the present that also doles out exposition in an intriguing way without having to chop up time and give us a constant stream of disruptive flashbacks. There’s just such a strong confidence to this book, with timely themes and perfect, making it one of the must-reads of 2021 and our pick of the week.

Red Hood: The epic “Cheer” story line reaches its conclusion, and Red Hood’s alliance with Batman will be forever changed. Will the former Dynamic Duo get the Cheerdrop drug off the streets for good? Or will they forever be at the mercy of the villain who created it? And will Red Hood find a new home for Tyler, the boy he’s sworn to protect? Tim Drake: Tim Drake is in the den of the Chaos Monsters with the other kidnapped teenagers of Gotham City. In order to free himself and the other teens, Tim will have to embrace help from his friend Bernard and hear something about himself he never knew. A brand-new chapter of Tim Drake’s life starts here, and you won’t want to miss it! Black Canary: Oracle locates some Batman weaponry, missing since The Joker War, and calls in her old friend Dinah Lance to help retrieve it! Fists will fly, the Canary will scream, and a stunning new mission begins. The ending will leave readers in shock and awe! Zealot: The HALO Corporation sent their top field agent, code name Zealot, to hunt Maxwell Lord. But the villain has a guardian angel in the form of...Wonder Woman?! A throw down for the ages will ensue!
Why It’s Cool: This series has been really really strong. It’s fragmented in nature because it’s an anthology series, but the stories within all do a great job of providing connective tissue between the thriving Batman line of comics. This issue is particularly excellent and consequential, though I don’t want to say any more than that, lest I spoil something.

Batman Urban Legends #6

Defenders #1
Writer:
Al Ewing
Artist:
Javier Rodriguez
Inker: Alvaro Lopez
Letterer:
Joe Caramagna
Publisher:
Marvel Comics
SUPERSTARS AL EWING & JAVIER RODRÍGUEZ REUNITE FOR A COSMOS-COLLIDING JOURNEY! When existence itself faces extraordinary threats, it needs an extraordinary defense! That’s when you call...THE DEFENDERS! DOCTOR STRANGE and the MASKED RAIDER take a non-team of Marvel’s weirdest, wildest heroes on a mission that will uncover the hidden architecture of reality itself! This cosmos was not the first to exist...but if the DEFENDERS can’t track Marvel’s oldest villain through the deepest trenches of time — it might be the last!
Why It’s Cool: Writer Al Ewing has become the mad architect of all things cosmic Marvel, doing so across titles that span about half a decade at this point, from The Ultimates to Guardians of the Galaxy and more. This book seems poised to tie together a few plot threads from Ewing’s work, and it’s all being brought to life by the artist team of Javier Rodriguez and Alvaro Lopez, one of the best in the superhero business.

Silver Coin #5
Writer:
Michael Walsh
Artist:
Michael Walsh and Gavin Fullerton
Colorist:
Michael Walsh and Toni Marie Griffin
Publisher:
Image Comics
For the fifth installment of horror anthology THE SILVER COIN from MICHAEL WALSH, CHIP ZDARSKY, KELLY THOMPSON, ED BRISSON, and JEFF LEMIRE, the story reaches back to when the coin’s cruel curse was first minted. In a small New England village, a woman has been accused of witchcraft.
Why It’s Cool: This issue of what is now an ongoing series is absolutely excellent. Its horror comics at their best, featuring some truly chilling cartooning. What’s perhaps even more interesting, though, is the way the book fills in so much relevant back story for all the issues that came before, as well as the issues that will come after. It’s truly a golden age of horror anthology comics that come monthly, or rather, there are two truly excellent ones in this book and Ice Cream Man.

The Unbelievable Unteens #1
Writer:
Jeff Lemire
Artist:
Tyler Crook
Colorist:
Tyler Crook
Letterer:
Tyler Crook
Publisher:
Dark Horse Comics
Jeff Lemire! Tyler Crook! From the world of the Eisner Award-winning Black Hammer series comes this meta team superhero saga taking place between two different worlds. After signing at a comic book convention, Unbelievable Unteens artist Jane Ito finds herself visited by one of the characters from her own creation—but was it her own creation? Were the Unteens an actual school of teenaged misfit superheroes who battled supervillains under the lead of the mysterious Dr. Miles Moniker? And if so, who wiped their memories and why? As Jane's world is turned upside down and she learns the true nature of her identity, she discovers a sinister plot leading her to assemble a team she had suspected was purely fictional. An exciting reimagination of the Eisner Award-winning Black Hammer series!
Why It’s Cool: There’s always been a really cool metafictional quality to the Black Hammer Universe, just based on how the series tend to be heavily rooted in homage. This book, however, is the one that leans into that quality the most, and with the vast talents of Tyler Crook involved, it’s easily a must-read.
