Upcoming comic con appearances

Hey everyone!

As you may have seen (or experienced), New York City had its coldest, snowiest winter in decades…and it was also my first winter here. From late January through the end of February, we had an actual blizzard, a two-week deep freeze, and just a general loss of any happiness. So, I’ve basically been hibernating, reading comics, working on new scripts, watching so many movies, taking Internet breaks when possible, etc.

But the snow is (mostly) gone now, temperatures are rising, and I am lining up my comics convention appearance for the year to come.

In fact, I’ve got my schedule (so far) for you below, but first…this month’s artist commission!

The Art

Keeping with our comics convention theme, this month’s art is by my pal ROM, who I actually met tabling last year at the Brooklyn Independent Comics Showcase (BICS). Table placement at these things can be random, so it’s always a bonus when you get along well and have a good time chatting with your neighbor.

What was also cool at BICS, was I really dug ROM’s art and comics…so at the end of the weekend, we did a comics swap, and briefly talked about a commission for this newsletter.

Well, now here that commission is!

It’s a play on one of the stories from Death of Comics Bookcase, Vol. 1, a seven-page short I wrote. It was illustrated by the great PJ Holden, colored by Dearhbla Kelly, and lettered by Simon Bowland. As ROM’s pieces leans into, the whole thing was pretty absurd, ending with our hero (who looked quite a bit like me ahem), teleporting into an Oval Office that was being presided over by twin President Trumps, one that was an ape and the other that was an anthropomorphic shark.

Comics.

Anyway, ROM’s piece is so great, imagining what if those Trumps had to debate each other. Obviously, carnage would ensue.

Finally, I should also note that if you dug the first Apes v. Sharks story, artist PJ Holden is currently publishing a must-read sci-fi comic via his Patreon, called Terran Omega. I’m a subscriber, and it’s great.

Those are just the appearances I currently have locked in. I may also have news soon about an international appearance in early June (as close to home as possible, while still being international), and a BIG swing convention in the fall.

But nothing official yet.

News

As far as news, nothing official to announce just yet. If you read this newsletter, you already know that Death of Comics Bookcase, Vol. 2 is coming, and I can tell you it’s much closer to the finish than it is the start.

A September campaign seems likely, with half the artists from the past book returning (and bringing familiar characters with them), and three brand-new artists coming aboard as collaborators.

Should be good. My goal with all these projects is for the scripting to be just a bit better than the last, and I think I’ve managed that here.
